St Joan of Arc's relics undergo tests

A team of scientists in Paris is hoping to determine whether the 'relics' of St Joan on display in a French museum are really those of the saint. Forensic expert Philippe Charlier and his team plan to spend six months on the project. The relics are said to have been found at the stake in the Normandy town of Rouen where Joan was burned in 1431 for heresy and witchcraft. She was just 19. France's national heroine helped the French organise a campaign against the English in Orleans in 1430. After her death a second court trial decided that she had been innocent. She was beatified in 1909 and canonised in 1920.
