Parents of abducted child visit Fatima

The parents of four-year-old Madeleine McCann, kidnapped in Portugal on 3rd May, visited the shrine of Fatima yesterday. Kate and Gerry McCann attended Mass at the Cathedral and lit candles in the Sanctuary of the shrine. The McCanns have attended Mass nearly every day since their daughter Madeleine disappeared from her bedroom in the small Algarve resort town of Praia da Luz. A family friend said: "Their faith is very, very important for them and this was a profoundly moving and important spiritual visit for them at this time." He said: "They are immensely grateful to everybody who has been giving them good wishes, flowers, presents and praying for them. "Every single prayer is important to them, they draw strength from every prayer in their ongoing search for Madeleine." As the McCanns walked around the shrine they were quietly greeted by pilgrims who wished them well.
