Kenya: Church to open three new radio stations

The Catholic Bishops in Kenya plan to open new FM radio stations in all the three metropolitan archdioceses of Kisumu, Mombasa and Nyeri in the next three years from now, the director of Radio Waumini 88.3 FM, Father Martin Wanyoike announced on Sunday. Speaking on the fourth anniversary of the FM radio station, Fr Wanyoike said funds for the project has already been sourced from the Episcopal conference of the Italian bishops and the church was awaiting the frequency license from the Kenyan government. Earlier while presiding over the Mass to mark the occasion, Bishop Alfred Rotich, chairman of the bishops' social communications commission, paid tribute to Waumini FM station for its commitment to evangelization, through modern media communications. The occasion was graced by the presence of Comboni Father, Sesana Kizito, who was the first director of the FM station. The station broadcasts in both English and Kiswahili, a widely spoken language in East and Central African countries.
