Kenya: Pope appoints new head for Nairobi archdiocese

The Nairobi metropolitan archdiocese has a new archbishop. Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Archbishop John Njue, 63, the current co-adjuctor of the metropolitan archdiocese of Nyeri and current chairman of the Kenyan Episcopal Conference as new archbishop for Nairobi metropolitan archdiocese. Archbishop Njue takes over from Archbishop Ndingi Mwana 'aNzeki, who is retiring. He had served the archdiocese as its archbishop for 10 years.Archbishop Ndingi had tended his formal resignation letter last December as he was reaching 75. Archbishop Njue becomes the fourth archbishop to lead the Nairobi metropolitan archdiocese. The first one was the Irish Holy Ghost missionary, John Joseph McCarthy, followed by the late Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga, and then Archbishop Ndingi. The good news was communicated to the church through the apostolic nunciature in Kenya last week.
