Kenya: ten seminarians ordained to the diaconate

Ten Jesuit seminarians from the Hekima School of Theology, were ordained to the diaconate on Saturday at Guadalupe Catholic Church in Nairobi. The Right Reverend Rodrigo Mejia Sadariaga, the Titular Bishop of Vulturia and Vicar Apostolic of Soddo-Hosanna, South Ethiopia, recalled that the religious life of a clergyman called for commitment, readiness and preparedness to serve in the Lord's Kingdom. The ten new deacons, who have spent seven years undertaking both philosophy and theology were: Brian Banda from Zambia; Fidele Ingiyimbere from Burundi; David Masikini from Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC; Loic Mben from Cameroon; Godwin Mulenga from Zambia; Hasiniaina Rakotoarisoa from Madagascar; Jacques Randrianary from Madagascar; Pascal Rumb from DRC; Richard Tambwe from DRC and Desire Yamuremye from Burundi. Bishop Rodrigo Mejia, who was formerly the Provincial for Jesuits Society in Eastern Africa region and one time rector at Hekima School of Theology, Nairobi said he was happy to be back at Hekima as the institute marked 25 years on its foundation. The colorful diaconate ordination ceremony was followed by a grand reception held at the Hekima School of Theology, where the newly ordained deacons mingled with lecturers, and invited guests and friends.
