Mini-Bible launched

A new version of the Bible, which, according to its author, can be read in 100 minutes, was launched yesterday.

The 100-Minute Bible, which claims to summarises every book from the Creation to the Revelation, was unveiled at Canterbury Cathedral by its author, ex-headmaster Rev Michael Hinton.

It took Mr Hinton more than two years to cut down the 66 books of the Bible into a version that could be read in one hour and 40 minutes.

Publishers, the 100-Minute Press say the book is "ideal for for an upcoming rail or aeroplane journey."

The company says it has been written for those who want to know more about Christianity but who do not have the time to read the original Bible.

Len Budd, proprietor of the 100-Minute Press, said: "This is a book for adults and has been written in a style to encourage readers to keep turning the pages, but without resorting to any literary gimmicks."

The Anglican Bishop of Jarrow, Rt Rev John Pritchard, who was a consultant on the book said he thought it was a great introduction to the Bible.

"I don't think most people know the Bible very well," he said.

"This is an attempt to say, 'Look, there's a great story here - let's get into it and let's not get put off by the things that are going to be the sub-plot. Let's give you the big plot'."
