Labourer in the Vineyard: A Portrait of Pope Benedict XVI

Probably the first book about Pope Benedict XVI by an English author, was published this week.

Labourer in the Vineyard: A Portrait of Pope Benedict XVI by Greg Watts outlines the events that have shaped Pope Benedict's life and faith and also provides a key to understanding his thought.

Greg said: "My book is aimed at the general reader. I've presented Pope Benedict's life in what I hope is an accessible and interesting format. I've tried to present a rounded picture of him and one that shows how untrue all those media stereotypes were. He is an extraordinary man. I think that readers will be surprised by some of the things I have uncovered about his life."

London-based Greg Watts has spent sixteen years as a religious affairs writer and written a number of books, including Catholic Lives, From Gangland to Promised Land and Released: Journeys From Prison to Faith and Hope.

He was a member of the Catholic Communications Network team that covered the death of Pope John Paul II and the election of Pope Benedict. "I was fortunate to be in Rome for the conclave and to be in St Peter's Square when Pope Benedict appeared at the balcony. During that time I spoke with a number of people in Rome who had met or worked with Pope Benedict. This proved to be invaluable in writing the book."

Labourer in the Vineyard: A Portrait of Pope Benedict XVI by Greg Watts is published by Lion, priced £5.99 and available at all good book shops and online sites, including Amazon.
