Jesuits seek alumni from around the world

Farm Street Church, the Jesuit parish in central London, is attempting to compile a database of Jesuit alumni from around the world who are now living or working in Britain. On leaving Jesuit schools and colleges in their own countries, many students begin international travels or take up appointments abroad. It is known, for instance, that at least 200 former students of just one Jesuit university in the United States are now resident in Britain. The Farm Street Jesuits hope to identify many more and they have issued an invitation for them to join the Annual Alumni Mass at the church, which is being held on 31 July, the Feast of the founder of the Society of Jesus, St Ignatius Loyola. "We believe in educating the 'whole person' in our Jesuit schools, and this can have a profound affect upon a former student's whole life," says Father William Pearsall SJ, the parish priest at Farm Street Church. "Many look back on their Jesuit education and reflect on how it helped make them the people they are, intellectually, professionally, spiritually and socially. We try hard to keep in touch with students who've studied with us in Britain, but this is the first time that we've made a concerted effort to contact those thousands of students who were educated at Jesuit schools and colleges around the world and who are now resident in Britain." The Alumni Mass will be at 6pm on Thursday, 31 July at Farm Street Church, London W1. For further information, see www.jesuit.org.uk/latest/080630.htm
