Divine musical comedy coming to West End
Sister Act the Musical opens at the London Palladium on 7 May.
When singer and aspiring star Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a crime, she is placed in protective custody in the one place cops are sure she won't be found - a convent. Having only ever thought about her own success, Deloris expects to feel out of place and at complete odds with the selfless lifestyle of the nuns and the environment of the church. Instead she finds solace, self-worth and true sisters like she had never before imagined, and a new use for her singing talent as choir mistress. She breathes new life into the church and community, but in doing so blows her cover. The criminals come to the convent looking for Deloris, only to find themselves up against the power of her new found "Sister Hood"!
Whoopi Goldberg is co-producing the show with Stage Entertainment (producers of Hairspray the Musical) and Sheila Hancock has been cast as Mother Superior, Ian Lavender as Monsignor Howard and US actress Patina Miller making her West End debut as Deloris Van Cartier. The show will also feature a brand new score by right-time Oscar winner Alan Menken whose credits include Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and most recently the hit movie Enchanted, making it the perfect show for the whole family.
