Lecture: Did Luther's Reformation 'Do the Pope a favour?'

Marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, on 31 October the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School will welcome journalist, writer and broadcaster Peter Stanford for a unique talk entitled: Did Martin Luther’s Reformation 500 Years Ago ‘Do The Pope A Favour?’ As He Suggested?

Peter Stanford will be the 11th speaker the Vaughan has welcomed as part of its popular community Leadership Lecture series. His investigations into the history, theology and cultural significance of religious ideas include: The Devil – A Biography; How To Read a Graveyard; Judas - The Troubling History of the Renegade Apostle; and, most recently, Martin Luther: Catholic Dissident. A former editor of the Catholic Herald and a past Vaughan parent, he is a feature writer at the Daily Telegraph and director of the Longford Trust for prison reform.

Paul Stubbings, headteacher at Cardinal Vaughan, said: "We’re delighted to welcome Peter Stanford, a former Vaughan parent, to mark an event of such profound and ongoing historical significance."

All of the Vaughan’s Leadership Lectures are free for the public to attend, although spaces will be limited so please email hmpa@cvms.co.uk to confirm your attendance. The talk will be followed by questions from the audience and a drinks reception. All welcome.

Peter Stanford’s talk will begin at 6.30 pm on 31 October, and will be held in the New Hall of the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, W14 8BZ.
