Passionist Chapter at Minsteracres
The Passionists held their four-yearly Provincial Chapter meeting at Minsteracres Retreat Centre in Northumberland this week. Based on the theme of ‘Between Cross and Resurrection' - the week was attended by the Passionist Father General, Fr Joachim Rego CP, members of the Community of the Passion and Passionist Partners.
The meeting re-elected their leadership team: Superior Fr John Kearns CP with Fr Martin Newell CP and Fr Mark White CP.
Despite the diminishing numbers and increasing age profile of professed members, there was a great sense of hope and energy.
Plans for the future include fully divesting from fossil fuels; making ‘Welcoming the Stranger’ (Mt 25:35) a Province priority and raising the Passionists’ public profile through advertising. The Chapter also endorsed the Passionist Partnership initiative which supports a number of growing lay-led projects on behalf of the poor and excluded.
Set in a former stately home in 40 acres of rolling countryside and an avenue of giant Redwood Trees, Minsteracres is a popular retreat centre. Facilities include a youth centre, peace garden, prayer walks, and a Poustinia - for private retreats. Parish retreats throughout 2017 will be examining ‘Seeds of Hope’.
