Grimsby Catenians support hospital unit
During his year as President of the Grimsby Circle of the Catenian Association, Jonathan Read selected the Amethyst Unit at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital as his chosen charity. The Amethyst unit which opened in 2013, serves haematology, oncology and rheumatology patients.
Money was raised throughout the year at the regular meetings by holding raffles and by people making donations. Jonathan presented cheques with a combined value of £1,200 to Melanie Bratley, deputy ward manager at the Amethyst Unit.
Melanie explained that every penny goes towards improving the experience of the patient. This is achieved by ensuring that the décor is always fresh and bright, the furniture is of a high standard and to cover the costs of sending nursing staff on training courses to ensure the patients always receive the best possible care.
The ward is currently replacing each of the specialist chairs used by the patients. Each chair costs over £2,000, so the money will soon be put to good use.
