Proclaim '15 resources for evangelisation

Creating a vision and strategy, reaching out to non-churchgoing Catholics, youth evangelisation and connecting with those who have no experience of church, are just some of the topics covered in a new online resource area being published this weekend by the Bishops of England and Wales.

The Proclaim '15 materials are the fruit of the labours of an inter-diocesan team from across England and Wales, with the central aim to support Church growth.

The resources include: films of talks and workshops that were given at the National Catholic Evangelisation Conference on 11 July (including BSL recordings of the keynotes for the deaf); top tip sheets that propose practical steps that parishes can take covering eleven different topics relevant to local mission; audio recordings of the talks and workshops as available from Agape Ministries: www.agapeministries.co.uk Among those featured in the free film recordings are: Cardinal Vincent Nichols (Westminster) and Rev Nicky Gumbel (Alpha). In all, over 100 simple ideas are on offer to enable parishes to take a new step.

Bishop Nicholas Hudson, the lead bishop for the National Catholic Evangelisation Conference on 11 July, explained: "Every parish is invited to use the materials and consider one or two responses they might make to what they read, watch, listen to and discuss. A central emphasis in the Proclaim '15 materials is the importance of prayer as the foundation of a missionary parish. Prayer must always be our starting point so that we listen to the voice of the Lord and seek to do his work."

The Proclaim '15 project was launched earlier this year and has five parts to it including the provision of prayer materials, small group materials, the organisation of a national conference, local events and now the publication of the new online resource materials.

Bishop Nicholas added: "Pope Francis is inviting the Catholic Community worldwide to share confidently the joy of its faith in Jesus Christ. The Proclaim '15 initiative is inspired by his teaching and example. There can be no greater joy in life than knowing and being a follower of Jesus and through Proclaim '15 we hope that many more people will come to know and experience this for themselves."

The materials will be published on 20 September, Home Mission Sunday, an annual day of prayer and celebration for the work of evangelisation in England and Wales.
