New Advent Reflections from Arundel & Brighton
As the Synod of Bishops opens on 'The word of God' the diocese of Arundel & Brighton has produced reflections based on the Advent Sunday readings: The Diocese of Arundel & Brighton has produced another a series of reflections for the use of groups and individuals based on Advent Scripture readings. Both the Synod and these Reflections reveal the importance the Catholic Church places on Scripture in its life.
The reflections are intended as a stimulus and help in people's spiritual preparation for Christmas this year. The reflections are based on the readings which we shall hear at Sunday Mass this Advent from St Paul and the Gospels. People are encouraged in an atmosphere of prayerful reflection to share their insights into God's word as they prepare for Christmas. The booklet also continues short commentaries on the readings.
The booklet has been prepared by Fr Rob Esdaile, a parish priest in the diocese, David Wills the Adult Formation Adviser, and Ben Gray, a trainee teacher and Sue Petritz from the Adult Formation Commission.
David Wills, the Adult Formation Adviser said "We believe that the Advent Reflections 2008 provide an accessible and prayerful way for people to enter into Advent and deepen their understanding of the Scripture for the Sundays of Advent."
The front cover of the Advent Reflection Book has the icon of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom on it which was a gift given by Pope John Paul II to university students around the world in the Great Jubilee Year 2000. The icon travels around the world from one community of University students to another. The icons shows Jesus seated on the lap of Mary, the seat of Wisdom.
The Advent Reflection Booklet is available to download free of charge at www.dabnet.org or can be ordered from the Diocesan Bookshop for £1.50 at DABCEC in Crawley, bookshop@dabnet.org
