Herts: JFK School team wins award in Dragons Apprentice Challenge

'Team Flash' - a group of sixth formers from John F Kennedy Catholic School in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire has won an award in a 'Dragons Apprentice Challenge'.

The scheme allows young, budding entrepreneurs to gain experience in setting up and running their own events, in order to raise money for charity. To enable the students to do this, they are helped by a local charity leader and a 'Dragon' who offers guidance in their business skills, (in their case Hannah Duggan and Peter Walsh). Each group participating in the Challenge receives £100 from their 'Dragon' as a starting amount and is told to turn it into £1,000 or more.

They are raising money for the RNIB (Royal National Institute for the Blind), which provides services and support to people affected by sight loss and their families. So far they have raised money by selling their goods at Christmas Markets in December. They held a car show event in January at FFEI in Hemel Hempstead which is a high tech imagining company. The cars at FFEI included a Ferrari 458, Nissan GT-R, Aston Martin DB7 and a Porsche Cayman; the event was successful, generating over £350 for RNIB.

So far the team has raise an amazing total of £1,135.04. As a result of their efforts, they made it through to the top six teams in Dacorum.

On 23 March 2015, the team attended an awards ceremony at Shendish Manor in Apsley, Herts. They came third out of the six teams and got an award for having the most Innovative Business Idea. Well done to Danny Nasr, Hannah Moring, Lauren Reid, Ciara Murray, Tom Hilson, Kira Yorke-Wilkinson, Chloe Lummis and Alex Jones (pictured).
