Philippines: Church launches five year Bible campaign

Catholic Church leaders last night launched a five-year nationwide campaign called 'May They Be One' Bible campaign at the Manila Cathedral here in line with the start of the celebration of 'Month of the Holy Rosary' in October.

The launch was led by Papal Nuncio Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams who lead the Eucharistic celebration with other bishops and priests concelebrating.

Initiated by the Episcopal Commission on Bible Apostolate of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, together with the Philippine Bible Society, and other churches, the campaign aims not only to put a Bible in every Filipino home but also to encourage the faithful to read and live it.

This is a response to the call of Christ for all His children to 'be one,' (John 17:21) since unity is vital for making the Word of God accessible, understandable, respected, and lived," Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales said in a statement.

Rosales then urged all parish priests, shrine rectors, chaplains, religious men and women, and school directors in the Archdiocese of Manila to support the campaign by sending their representatives to the launch.
