London: Talk on Haiti in aftermath of 2010 earthquake
The head of the organisation responsible for monitoring aid in Haiti following the earthquake which left a million people homeless and killed an estimated 316,000 will be speaking in London this Thursday, 10 January.
Fr Francois Kawas SJ, the director of Cerfas, will be the guest of Progressio at an evening entitled Haiti+3: Building back better? in which he will talk about the role that the UK Churches have played in the reconstruction of the country.
The earthquake of January 2010 rocked Haitian society just as much as its buildings. Highlighting a past of deep poverty, it also showed the need for systematic change that protects the poorest. So after three years and many millions of pounds pledged and spent, how has the reconstruction gone, what is left to do and have poor people's lives been changed for the better? These are some of the questions that Fr Kawas will be addressing at St Joseph's Hall, Brompton Road, London, SW7 2RP on Thursday, 10 January at 7pm.
The talk is being offered in association with Westminster Justice and Peace Commission and Independent Catholic News. If you wish to attend, please contact campaigns@progressio.org.uk
