Scene of devastation

Caritas Italy is launching a new community centre tomorrow, in an area devastated by a powerful earthquake in 2009. The disaster killed 309 people. Many more were injured and hundreds lost their homes.

The 'Madonna, source of peace' centre in Fonteavignone, Rocca di Mezzo in Aquila, will be launched to promote social, cultural and pastoral activities.

Speakers at the launch will include the Archbishop of L'Aquila, Giuseppe Molinari, president of Italian Caritas Bishop Giuseppe Merisi and the director of Italian Caritas, Don Francesco Soddu. Parish priests Fr Renzo Pino D'Ascenzo and Fr Don Manuel Cepeda will also speak.

The director of Caritas Ambrosiana, Roberto Davanzano, will represent the regional delegation of Caritas Lombardy.
