London: peace coalition campaign against war on Iran
This Saturday, 28 January, from 2pm-4pm, the Stop the War Coalition is launching a campaign against a war on Iran at the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square. The protest will be joined by politicians, academics, students, trade unionists, aid workers, justice and peace groups and church representatives.
In a statement, the Coalition said: "The momentum for an attack on Iran is growing, with unmistakable echoes of the drive to war on Iraq: tightening sanctions, claims about weapons of mass destruction and the demonisation of the Iranian regime."
Lindsey German, Convenor of Stop the War said: "This is the most dangerous moment since 2003. The US and NATO powers are pursuing a strategy of tension with Iran which could spark war at any time. We are mobilising the movement to do our best to stop this happening."
Among those speaking at the protest will be actor Roger Lloyd Pack, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Andrew Murray from Britain's largest union UNITE, Professor Abbas Edalat, Tony Benn, Lindsey German and Shirin Shafie.
