The Thai Children’s Trust is calling for everyone to go online on Monday 5 December 2011 from 10am for their Big Give for orphans in flood-stricken Thailand.

All donations made online on the day will be doubled, meaning contributions to the UK charity will go twice as far to help disadvantaged children.

The Trust aims to raise £50,000 in total to buy eight acres of arable farmland and supplies for Sarnelli House, an HIV/Aids orphanage in Nong Khai, north east Thailand, to provide food for the 200 children who live there.

In addition to providing a balanced diet, it will teach the children essential life skills in subsistence farming and animal husbandry and free up funds to pay for vital anti retroviral medications.

Sarnelli House is run by Father Mike Shea C.Ss.R, an American Redemptorist Catholic priest who has dedicated his life to helping the children in his care. Some have been abandoned on his doorstep, orphaned and near death. With the care and medical attention they receive, many are now leading normal, active lives. Donations made through Thai Children’s Trust will ensure this vital home can continue to look after the most needy children.

Thailand continues to suffer from the effects of the worst floods in living memory and so the need for a sustainable source of food is urgent as supplies available at the local markets are erratic and prices high.

“In our 30 years of helping some 4,000 children across Thailand, we have rarely seen a greater need,” says Thai Children’s Trust Director, Andrew Scadding. “The focus is on a very poor part of the country where problems have been exacerbated by severe flooding. We do hope people will go online from 10am on Monday 5 December and give generously.”
