Celebrity chef Fergus Henderson is backing the Big Cheese Celebration one of the events being held to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Cardinal Hume Centre in London.

The idea is for groups, schools, parishes and individuals to hold cheese and wine parties to raise money for the Centre which was founded by Cardinal Basil Hume. The money will help the Centre continue to support homeless young people and badly housed families, with little or no income.

Martha Clarke, Director of Communications, at the Centre, said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to support the wonderful legacy of Cardinal Basil Hume in a practical way. As we all strive to cope with the uncertainty of these harsh economic times it is important that we do not forget those living on the margins of society. Holding a Big Cheese Celebration means people can do something worthwhile at the same time as enjoying themselves”.

The Centre provides a home and a wide range of services to young people including training and advice on how to find jobs to enable them to build a stable and sustainable future. It also provides a vital lifeline to families in the local area offering them the opportunity to learn new skills and get advice on benefits and inadequate housing.
