Review - Edwin Fawcett's debut Truth: Overflow

You couldn't have been at a more ecumenical celebration of faith and Truth than at Holy Apostles in Pimlico, central London, on Friday 13 May 2011. At Edwin Fawcett's debut showcase concert Truth:Overflow, presented by Steven Raman and hosted by Paschal Uche, the crowd of 350 people of many different faiths and none were silenced to awe during such bluesy tracks from Edwin's latest album Stronghold like Full of Compassion and Stronghold, but also rejoiced and danced to the vibrant and upbeat flavours of more contemporary 'RnB' style Gospel with May Your Love be upon us O Lord, and Hallelujah Praise. It was an evening of beautiful music that resounded and touched many hearts in the audience through an overflow of Edwin's talent, and of course an outpouring of the Holy Spirit that brought us all into communion with each other.

Known to the Catholic community as 'a child of Youth 2000', Edwin's ministry has grown into a fruitful labour of love and commitment… a commitment to God in the Blessed Trinity, and a commitment to his brothers and sisters in his call to evangelise and proclaim the Word of God to every soul who encounters his music. His gift of singing and songwriting, of being a composer and producer gives Edwin a truly unique place in the UK Catholic community, which is a true blessing to our Church today. He fulfils his apostolic mission with great humility and gracefulness, yet he has achieved much at such a young age… for not many young people can say they have confidently ministered before the Pope to 80,000 in a Central London park before, and this is a real inspiration for any Catholic, most especially young Catholics in the UK.

One of the audience's favourite tracks at Truth:Overflow was Overflow, a track inspired by the World Youth Day message to 'be rooted in him and built up on him, held firm by the faith you have been taught, and overflowing with thanksgiving' (Col 2:7). The song was written after the invitation Pope Benedict XVI made at Hyde Park, for all young people to come to Madrid this summer. He said: "Do not be afraid to give yourself totally to Jesus. He will give you the grace you need to fulfil your vocation. Let me finish these few words by warmly inviting you to join me next year in Madrid for World Youth Day".

Edwin truly took these words to heart, and from that inspiration was borne a youthful anthem of praise and encouragement in Overflow. This must-have track is available as a free download from www.edwinfawcett.com and available to vote for on the World Youth Day song competition webpages. Edwin will also be in Spain himself, to lead music ministry as part of the World Youth Day celebrations.

Special guest performers of the night Pure Wisdom and London based singers Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir (formerly St Patrick's Gospel Choir) enhanced the Gospel music experience for the audience with their style and rhythm to create a tasteful fusion of soulful vibes and God's Word. The result: an uplifted audience who buzzed on a spiritual high for the rest of the weekend. The sponsorship for the event, given by organisations Youth 2000 and Soul Food, means we can rest assured that with the massive support Edwin receives from his fans, family and friends, he will continue to grace us with music to fill our spirits and souls! With two albums (Soulpsalms and Stronghold) now talked about and purchased around the world, Edwin is arguably one of the best praise and worship ministers the UK Catholic church has to offer… so he is undoubtedly someone to keep an eye out for in the future.

Edwin enjoys keeping in touch with his fans and friends, and is easily found on Twitter under the profile @edwinfawcett, and on Facebook as Edwin Fawcett. His albums are available to download on iTunes or purchase direct from his website www.edwinfawcett.com
