Salvatorians elect new Provincial Superior

The British Pro-province of the Salvatorians elected Father Alex McAllister SDS as its next provincial superior to succeed Father Peter Preston, last Tuesday. Fr Alex will commence his three-year term of office on 22nd March.

Father Alex is 54 years old and was born in Edinburgh. His family moved to Thornbury, Bristol when he was eight and he was subsequently educated at St Brendan's College, Bristol. After his ordination in 1984 he served as chaplain to the Salvatorian College in Wealdstone and for two terms as province treasurer. In 1992 he became parish priest of St Saviour's, Abbots Langley, Herts.

In 1993 he was elected to the General Council and became General Secretary of the Order based in Rome. On his return to the UK in 1999 he was appointed to his home parish of Christ the King, Thornbury. Father Alex has served as vicar provincial for the last six years. His Sunday sermons are published each week on: www.homilies.net .

* The Salvatorians are also celebrating this week that their founder, Frances Jordan is on the road to Beatification.

"With great joy we have heard that today, 14th January 2011, the same day that Pope John Paul 11 was declared Venerable, Pope Benedict XVI signed the decree of Heroicity of Virtues of the founder of the Salvatorians, Father Francis Jordan. He now has the title Venerable and after the approval of a miracle he may proceed to Beatification", said Father Alex McAllister, Vicar Provincial for the Salvatorians in the UK and Ireland
