London: Catholic architecture students form society
One of Britain’s oldest independent institutes of higher education is now home to perhaps to London’s youngest Catholic community. Students at the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) launched the Christian Catholic Architecture Students (CCAS) last Thursday, at the School of Architecture in Bedford Square.
The group aims to act as an energising “creative minority” in the school’s largely international student body.
Whilst Roman Catholic, the group will encourage multi-denomination participation from the school and other architecture academies in the city. It is also keen to engage with older graduate students and practising architects.
Its founding members believe "faith is indispensible in our professional lives."
One member said: “to study architecture requires more than living with a purely worldly outlook. Faith is important as it can really instil a healthy grounding effect”.
Further meetings are now planned at the school each month. The group will use the University of London’s chaplaincy Newman House as a staging point for weekly activities.
CCAS is an open initiative welcomes all to join them students and those in the work place, designers of buildings and even those who just dwell in them.
