Actor David Harewood joined CAFOD director Chris Bain and three fellow campaigners to hand in over 20,000 supporter signatures to Downing Street on Thursday morning.

The signatures were in support of CAFOD's Act on Poverty campaign, calling for the new coalition government to protect the poorest and most vulnerable by:

* pushing for a climate change deal at the UN
* honouring the commitment to spend 0.7 per cent of national income on aid by 2013
* ensuring businesses are accountable to people in poor countries affected by their operations.

Chris Bain reiterated the need for the government to take strong and decisive action on these crucial issues in the months and years ahead, whilst Blood Diamond star David said: "It's great that 20,000 people came together to speak out for some of the poorest people in world. I'm so pleased to be part of this campaign and privileged to be able to come to Number 10 to deliver these messages on behalf of CAFOD supporters all over the country"

On the day, 20165 signed cards were handed in. CAFOD is now awaiting a response from the Prime Minister to share with supporters.
