St Mary's Cathedral, Aberdeen

The Cathedral Church of Saint Mary of the Assumption, Aberdeen, celebrates its 150th anniversary tomorrow, Tuesday 5 October 2010 with a solemn Mass at 6.30pm.

As well as Cardinal Keith O'Brien and Archbishop Mario Conti, most of the bishops of Scotland, distinguished guests will include Bishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller of Regensburg in Germany, which is twinned with Aberdeen, and Monsignor Brian Udaigwe, Chargé d’Affaires at the Nunciature in London, representing the Nuncio, Archbishop Faustino Sainz Muñoz, who is recovering from illness.

Also invited are church leaders from other denominations and civic representatives including the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, The Hon. Peter Stephen.

Commenting on the anniversary, Bishop Peter Moran of Aberdeen said: "The 150th anniversary of the Cathedral is a milestone not only for the building itself but for the entire diocese of Aberdeen. Members of every parish have been invited to share this joyful and historic occasion. I am delighted to welcome my fellow Scottish bishops, especially my predecessor in Aberdeen, now the Archbishop of Glasgow, Archbishop Mario Conti and our ecumenical guests."
