Fr Michael

Franciscan Father Michael Seed, former Ecumenical Advisor to Cardinal Hume and Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, is recovering from a minor heart attack. Fr Michael, 52, became ill while giving a Lenten retreat in Florida and was rushed to hospital. He has returned to the UK now but has been ordered to have a complete rest.

Fr Michael served in the Diocese for 24 years, and hit the headlines when he befriended and encouraged a number of well-known people - including MP Anne Widdecome and the Duchess of Kent to become Catholic. He was also renowned for his fundraising efforts for homeless projects such as the Passage, and many ecumenical initiatives.

Fr Michael retired from Westminster in July 2008. See: www.indcatholicnews.com/news.php?viewStory=10354
