City of London church holds Prayers for the Poor

St Mary Moorfields in the City of London is dwarfed by the cathedrals of finance - but that is the venue for a monthly prayer group which meets to ask God to achieve what might seem the impossible - to end poverty. The group are building links with partners around the world, who are praying at the same time.

According to the United Nations, almost one person in five - 1.2billion men, women and children, are currently living in a situation of extreme poverty, surviving on the equivalent of less than one dollar a day.

It is a 'big ask' that the prayer group are making but it believes that without big faith big problems can not be resolved. As well as praying for poverty in general the group pray for individuals or small charities that have recently set up and may not have an organised system of prayer partners in place.

Prayer for the Poor takes place every last Friday in the month from 1.45pm to 2.45pm. St Mary Moorfields is at 4, Eldon Street close to Moorgate and behind Liverpool Street station. You do not need to attend the church but can pray with the group at home or where you are.

People pray in the United States rising early to pray at the same time which is around 8am on the Eastern Seaboard. There is a monthly newsletter. For more information e-mail: prayerforthepoor@tesco.net.
