A UK-based Polish woman, Mrs Krystyna Mochlinska, was presented with an award for her contribution to church life, at the Annual Conference of the Polish Institute for Catholic Action.

Monsignor Tadeusz Kukla, recently-retired Rector of the Polish Catholic Mission in England & Wales said: "It is an honour for me to present Mrs Mochlinska with the Medal on behalf of Cardinal Glemp for her wonderful service to the Church including over 19 years as the Prezes (Chairman) of IPAK."

"She has worked not only for the Polish Community, but also for the universal Church in international organisations."

The medal was handed over by the Conference's Guest Speaker, Archbishop Stanislaw Nowak of Czestochowa who congratulated her warmly and thanked her.

After the fall of the Iron Curtain, Mrs Mochlinska persuaded Polish Television to broadcast a Mass every Sunday at noon, not only within the country, but also via satellite to the rest of the world to reach émigré Poles.

During her career Krystyna met Pope John Paul II personally on many occasions both at the Vatican and at Castelgandolfo. She was also very involved in English Catholic life. Among her many jobs she served for two years on a committee preparing the World Union of Catholic Women's Organisations (WUCWO) general Assembly and Mass at Westminster Cathedral which was attended by 3,000 women.

Of particular note is Mrs Mochlińska's work with the Cardinal Glemp Foundation which helps Polish priests understand English culture by placing them in parishes here to minister alongside the local priests.

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of her life generally is that she is still in regular contact with her first RE teacher, the General Superior for many years of the Pauline Order at Poland's national shrine at Częstochowa, Fr Jerzy Tomzinski.
