Bethlehem Peace Education pioneer in London

Ibrahim Issa, co-director of the Hope Flowers School and Community Development Centre in Bethlehem, is guest speaker at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London from 6.45pm this Saturday, 30 January.

The first part of the evening includes a play produced by Ice and Fire Theatre Group called 'Palestinian Monologues'. Scripted by Sonja Linden, it features first hand testimonies from Palestinians and Israeli’s in the occupied territories and explores day to day experiences of life under occupation.

Hope Flowers was founded in 1984 by Ibrahim’s late father Hussein, who survived some of his life in a refugee camp. The school was created to give 'hope' for the future and to meet the need for a safe and supportive environment in which children could grow and develop into citizens of a new Palestine.

Ibrahim will talk about the school’s work as it seeks to heal the wounds caused by years of conflict and in building for the future by raising a new generation, empowered and equipped to take their place in a democratic society.

Today the school is widely recognised for its Global Citizenship Education and also as a resource for training trauma support workers across the West Bank and beyond.

Co-hosted by UK Friends of Hope Flowers and the SOAS Right to Education Society, the venue is: Lecture Theatre G2, SOAS University Main Building. Admission is free, and donations are invited for the ongoing work.
