White Fathers ordain 16 new priests
During this Year of Priests, the Society of Missionaries of Africa, also known as the 'White Fathers' have announced that they are celebrating 16 ordinations to the priesthood.
According to a statement from Fr Dominique Arnauld, Secretary for Initial Formation, several ordinations have already taken place in May and June and others will be held in July and August.
The new priests are from Asia, Africa, and Europe, from the countries of India, Poland, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, and Ghana.
Another 24 young men are currently preparing for the priesthood, towards their mission of service in Africa, in the formation communities of the White Fathers in Nairobi, Kenya, Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, and in Jerusalem.
"We invite everyone to join us in giving thanks for this abundant harvest and to pray for these future missionaries, that they can be 'apostles and nothing less than apostles' according to the intentions of Cardinal Lavigerie, founder of the Missionaries of Africa," said Fr Dominique.
The Society was founded in Algiers in 1868 by Cardinal Lavigerie. They are popularly known as 'the White Fathers' because traditionally they wore distinctive white robes.
