A Westminster diocese primary school, St Lawrence's in Feltham, has just presented CAFOD with more than 400 boxes of coins. The boxes were filled with pennies throughout by the generous pupils and their families.

The teachers, including head of RE, Clare Cowdrey, organised various fundraising activities for CAFOD during Lent, including a pupil-led bring and buy sale and various educational events using CAFOD resources.

A small team of volunteers then spent a week counting and banking bucket loads of pennies. The end result was a record breaking £2, 250 for CAFOD's poverty fighting work in the developing world.

Tony Sheen, CAFOD Westminster diocesan manager, praised the outward looking generosity of the school to their brothers and sisters in the developing world.

He said: "Fundraising for CAFOD is extra important in light of the fall of the value of the pound against the US$ in recent months. Many of CAFOD's projects have to be funded in US dollars, which means we need to raise even more money in these difficult times to support our partners in the developing world. Thanks you St Lawrence's!"
