Catholic Women of the Year

Four exceptional Catholic Women were honoured at the annual Catholic Women of the Year luncheon was held at the Hotel Russell in Russell Square on Thursday.

They were: Stella Lilley, who has run the Padre Pio Information centre for nearly 30 years and set up a nationwide network of prayer groups, meetings, conferences and pilgrimages.

Cecilia Bromley Martin, who works for Aid to the Church in Need. She has acted as their courier, taking aid to Catholics in China, visiting young priests training in secret seminaries in remote areas, and homes where Christians care for children with disabilities who have been abandoned. Her reports to the British media have highlighted human rights abuses taking place in China.

Eileen Murphy - who, despite poor health and recent loss of sight, has given a lifetime of service to community and Catholic organisations as well as caring for her invalid husband.

Sr Roseann Reddy, founder of the Sisters of the Gospel of Life, Glasgow, the first new women's religious community in Scotland since the Second Vatican Council. The sisters run care services for women facing problem pregnancies.
