Why 'pro-life- means 'pro-woman'

Following the release of a new report showing that one in ten UK men now carries the 'hidden sex disease' chlamydia, the charity LIFE said this represents an injustice to women - because the disease is the main cause of ectopic pregnancy and infertility. Giovanna Baccelliere, LIFE Education Officer, explained: "Part of our slogan 'Pro-woman' means just that. The new finding that one in ten men passes this disease on to women is clearly not pro-woman. It also shows that 'sexual freedom', and 'reproductive rights', are empty slogans. Many argue for these 'rights', but to what end? All we have seen is disaster. Men and women wanting sexual freedom are giving themselves just the opposite, by infecting one another with dangerous diseases. "All who are having casual sexual relations are playing extremely dangerous games. Chlamydia is often referred to as the 'silent disease' because there are no symptoms and it can lie undetected for many years. Abortion carries the untreated bacteria further up the womb and, left untreated, bacteria spread into the fallopian tubes where it destroys the fine hairs responsible for carrying the eggs down the tube. This damage result in pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. "The only way to prevent infections from spreading is by offering factual and moral education in schools, as LIFE has been doing over the past 30 years, telling young people about the dangers of early sexual activity and educating about true and lasting relationships."
