Columban Fathers in Britain appoint new director
Fr Denis A.V. Carter SSC has been appointed the new director of the British Region of the Missionary Society of St Columban, with effect from the 11 April 2004. He is replacing Fr Bernard McDermott SSC. Fr Carter, from Rochdale in the North of England, joined the Columban Fathers during 1974 and was ordained in 1981. In March1982 Fr Carter was assigned to missionary work in Pakistan. Much of his work was in the southern province of Sindh, where he worked among tribal people. He was involved in many aspects of missionary life, including catechesis, retreats, interfaith dialogue, justice and peace issues, primary health care and child/adult education. He holds an MA in Spirituality and Spiritual Direction. Since July 2002 Fr Carter has been assigned to Britain doing mission awareness work and fund-raising for the Columban Fathers. Many weekends have been spent making mission appeals in parishes. The Missionary Society of St Columban is an international missionary organisation with headquarters in Ireland. Members work in 14 countries.
