Welsh church leaders honoured

The University of Wales in Lampeter gave honourary fellowships to the Catholic Archbishop of Cardiff, Rt Rev Peter Smith, and the Most Rev Barry Morgan, the Anglican Archbishop of Wales, in this years Degree Day ceremonies on Friday. Archbishop Peter has held his current position since 2001. Since his arrival he has been very supportive of the work of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Lampeter, helping to establish an Open Learning Theology programme in Cardiff that helped to continue the theological education of 58 priests and laypeople. Archbishop Barry, who was elected to his current position in 2002, in succession to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, also has close links with the University of Wales, having taught at both Cardiff and Bangor.
