Procession of Our Lady in north London

A statue of Mary was carried in procession from the Church of St Thomas More in Manor House, north London, to the convent of the Ursuline Sisters of St Angela Merici yesterday to celebrate the feast of Our Lady Help of Christians. Earlier, children had decked the statue in flowers at a special Mass presided over by Fr Michael Wynstanley, Provincial of the Salesians with 16 concelebrants including parish priest Fr Clive Lee, his predecessor Fr Aidan Sharratt. Special guests included Dr Michael Refalo, the High Commissioner for Malta and his wife Mrs Refalo. During the Mass, Salesian Delegate Fr Hugh Preston enrolled four new members in the Association of Mary Help of Christians, a lay group, founded by St John Bosco, which meets at the convent. The new associates are: Albert Marilyn, Linda Challis, Claris Gay and Patience Nakayenze. The day concluded with a party in the convent house and garden. The Sisters have lived in Manor House for 26 years now. Besides their London convent, the Sisters have nine houses in Malta and four in Italy. The order works mainly with babies, children and their mothers. At Manor House they run a nursery.
