Faith leaders express solidarity at Birmingham mosque

Following the terrorist bombings in London yesterday, the Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Birmingham, this afternoon met Doctor Mohammed Naseem, Chairman, at the Birmingham Central Mosque in Highgate. The Archbishop was accompanied by Rabbi Leonard Tann of Singer's Hill, Synagogue, and the Very Reverend Gordon Mursell, Dean of St Philip's Anglican Cathedral in Birmingham, now Bishop-elect of Stafford. In his greetings Archbishop Vincent Nichols said: "Following the terrorist bombings in London yesterday, faith leaders in Birmingham, representing Islam, Judaism and Christianity, have come here to Birmingham Central Mosque as an act of solidarity and prayer. "Our meeting today is a clear and vivid demonstration to our shared commitment to lead people in faith, justice and peace. "We pray together for those who lost their lives and were injured in the outrageous events in London yesterday. "We also pray for each other and the communities we represent and lead that together we may seek to establish a multi-faith and multi-racial society of peace and harmony throughout Birmingham and the Midlands."
