Summer of celebrations at St Mary's, Stirling

Scottish Cardinal Keith Patrick O'Brien, concelebrated a special Mass on Friday, with 30 priests to mark the 100th anniversary of St Mary's church in Stirling. The service was attended by many civic and community leaders. St Mary's has enjoyed a summer of centenary celebrations. In July there was a parish pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi to highlight the link to the universal church and to pray at the tombs of the apostles and martyrs for the parish. On 12 August a centenary social and cabaret was held. In preparation for the centenary a programme of renovation was undertaken, which included the construction of a new altar, lectern and Blessed Sacrament pedestal from the original alabaster; the commissioning of a new presidential chair with the symbols of the Trinity; cleaning and repositioning of stain glass windows and new lighting system. Further projects to be completed later this year include the arrival of a new tabernacle; a commissioned mosaic of the Risen Christ and three more stain glass windows. Source: SCMO
