Scottish cardinal sends message of sympathy to American people

The President of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland, Cardinal Keith O'Brien has sent a message of sympathy to his US counterpart Bishop William S Skylstad, following the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina. Cardinal O'Brien wrote: Dear Bishop Skylstad, On behalf of Scotland's Catholics I extend to the people of the United States our deepest sympathies at the terrible loss of life your nation has experienced in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The devastation caused in the southern states and Gulf Coast area, especially the State of Louisiana is on an unimaginable scale. I offer you, on behalf of my brother bishops and the whole Catholic community of Scotland the promise of our prayers at this distressing time and a reminder of our solidarity with you as you begin to rebuild your shattered communities. We pray especially that grieving families are consoled in their loss and that those involved in rescue and reconstruction operations are given the strength they will need to complete their arduous tasks. Yours sincerely in Christ +Keith Patrick Cardinal O'Brien
