Oxford: first Catholic theology lecturership since Reformation
Rev Dr Aidan Nichols OP, has been appointed to the first lectureship in Catholic theology at Oxford University since the Reformation. Father Nichols, a Dominican, will take up the newly created John Paul II Visiting Lectureship on 17 April. The two year post will cover Catholic theology from the Council of Trent to the present day, and is combined with a fellowship at Greyfriars Hall. It was made possible by the generosity of a group of benefactors. Welcoming the appointment, Archbishop Vincent Nichols of Birmingham, said: "Aidan Nichols OP is a fine theologian. He gives eloquent expression to our quest for God and the belief of the Catholic Church. I am delighted that he has been appointed to the John Paul II Visiting Lectureship in Roman Catholic Theology. His appointment will strengthen the study of theology in the university." Father Nichols is the author of over 30 books. In 2003 the Dominicans made him Sacrae Theologiae Magister. Source: CCN
