London remembers the 7th of July


Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of the 7 July London bombings in which 52 people were killed and more than 700 injured. Many public events are planned and churches around the capital will be holding special memorial services. A Mass for Anthony Fatayi-Williams will be celebrated by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor at Westminster Cathedral at 1pm. A sung solemn Requiem Mass for the victims and their families takes place at Westminster Cathedral at 5.30pm. The Cardinal will join that Mass at the beginning before leaving for Regent's Park for the commemoration service there beginning at 6pm. Other events include a wreath-laying ceremony at 9am at the garden by Kings Cross Station; laying of flowers and poetry reading at 11.45am in Russell Square Gardens and the laying of Flowers and poetry reading in Tavistock Square at 11.45am. At 12 noon there will be a two minutes silence across the capital. A Multi Faith Service will be held at St Pancras Church at 12.30. The Anglican church of St George the Martyr, Queen Square, close to Tavistock Square, will be open from 8.30am-5.30pm for private prayer with two, short services at 8.30am and at 5pm. Holy Cross church in Cromer Street will also be open through the day. A sermon by Revd Roger Scopes, former minister of Regent Square United Reformed Church, preached shortly after the bombings last year, along with an interview reflecting on what was said, is available as a pod cast (and sermon as a written text) on www.regentsquare.urc.org.uk/
