Change in observance of Holy Days of Obligation
Holy Days of Obligation which are Solemnities of the Lord - other than Christmas Day - are to be moved to Sundays, according to a new ruling from the Bishops of England and Wales. This means that the Epiphany, the Ascension of the Lord and Corpus Christi will now be celebrated on Sunday. The Bishops said they decided to transfer these Holy Days of Obligation to Sunday in response to requests from the Diocesan Councils of Priests and many others. (The Catechism lists these other Holy Days of Obligation that are not Solemnities of the Lord which will be continue to be celebrated as before: The Feast of St Peter & St Paul; The Assumption of Our Lady and All Saints.)
