Liverpool: Funeral arrangements for Bishop Augustine Harris
The Most Reverend Patrick Kelly, Archbishop of Liverpool, is to celebrate Mass in thanksgiving for the life and work of Bishop Augustine Harris in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool on Tuesday 11 September at 11am. Bishop Harris died peacefully last Thursday, 30 August, at the age of 89. At the end of Mass the body will be taken to the Cathedral Church of St Mary, Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough where there will be a Service of Reception and Evening Prayer at 7pm. On Wednesday 12 September the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Mary's Cathedral at 12 noon prior to burial there. The Celebrant will be Archbishop Patrick Kelly and the Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Birmingham, will preach. Liverpool born Bishop Harris was Bishop of Middlesbrough from 1978 to 1992 having previously been Auxiliary Bishop of Liverpool from 1966 to 1978. During his ministry he consecrated both the Metropolitan Cathedral, Liverpool and St Mary's Cathedral, Middlesbrough. On his retirement from Middlesbrough he returned to live in the Archdiocese in Formby and latterly at Ince Blundell Hall. All are welcome to attend the Mass in Liverpool and no tickets are required,
