Obituary: Reverend Vincent Cunningham
Rev Vincent Cunningham died on 9 June. Vincent Cunningham was born in Liverpool on 12 July 1921, the son of Anne and William Joseph Cunningham. He spent his early education at St Mary's College, Crosby. His ecclesiastical studies were undertaken at the Beda College, Rome, where he was ordained to the priesthood in the Basilica of the Twelve Apostles on 9 April 1955. His first appointment, in August 1955, was to St Philip Neri, Liverpool. This was followed by an appointment in November 1960 to Our Lady of Compassion, Formby. In November 1961 he moved to St Mary and St John, Newton le Willows where he remained until May 1966 when he was reassigned to Blessed Julie, Eccleston, St Helens. In May 1968 he moved on to St Michael, Liverpool, and in July 1969 to St Anthony of Egypt, Liverpool. His next appointment, in February 1975, was to St Richard of Chichester, Bootle, followed by his final appointment, in September 1979, as Parish Priest of Our Lady Immaculate, Bryn, where he remained until 1997 when he retired from active ministry. He died peacefully on the morning of Monday 9 June in Crosby. May he rest in peace. His body was received into St Peter and St Paul church, Crosby for Mass at 7.30pm last night, Monday 16 June.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Peter and St Paul, Crosby at 11am tomorrow, Tuesday 17 June, followed by interment at Ford cemetery. Source: Archdiocese of Liverpool
