Governor stands by Christians
Tension is mounting in Indonesia as Islamic Jihad fighters stepped up their attacks on Christian homes and businesses. More than 200 Christians have now sought refuge in the residence of the governor of the Moluccas, Saleh Latuconsina, in Ambon. On Monday, troops sent two armoured vehicles to the residence in an attempt to rescue the governor and take him to safety at the Al-Fatah Mosque, but he refused to leave. The governor says he prefers to stay with the people he is protecting.
