World debt: email Tony Blair and Bill Clinton
As financiers prepare to meet in Japan next week for the G8 summit, campaigners are stepping up the pressure on them to cancel the debts of the poorest countries by sending emails to the world leaders. Ellen Teague of the Columban Faith and Justice Team said on yesterday (13 July): "Nineteen thousand children are dying each day because money that should go on clean water and medicines in the poorest countries is STILL being used to pay off foreign debt to rich countries. Please take a minute to help save their lives." To send an email direct to world leaders, including Tony Blair and Bill Clinton, go to website www.dropthedebt.org. You will receive acknowledgement from the leaders who are aware of this worldwide email action. Visit: www.dropthedebt.org again on 21 July to see the result of the action and to find out why Bono, Muhammad Ali and the Pope back the Jubilee 2000 campaign.
