Archbishop Milingo returns to church
Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo, 71, who married South Korean doctor Maria Sung in a Moonie mass wedding ceremony in May, announced his decision to return to the church on Saturday. Following a personal meeting with Pope John Paul II, the former Archbishop of Zambia wrote a letter on 11 August, which has been published on the Vatican website, confirming his recommitment to the Catholic church and giving up his relationship with Maria Sung and the Sun Moon sect. The former Archbishop of Zambia wrote: "Above all your words - 'In the name of Jesus return to the Catholic Church' were to me both a call back to my Mother Church and a paternal command to live my fidelity and obedience to you as representative of Jesus on the earth and head of the Catholic Church." Ms Sung is reported to be very distressed at the news. The Vatican news service said that the Archbishop is now on retreat. They said: "The Archbishop has decided to pass a period of reflection and prayer ahead of his full reconciliation."
