Taliban flee with Christian aid workers

The eight foreign aid workers jailed in Afghanistan last August on charges of preaching Christianity, were taken away from Kabul by the Taliban as the city fell to the Northern Alliance this morning, reports from Islamabad claim. Aid agencies believe they were initially taken to Kandahar. Two weeks ago, their trial was postponed. The eight workers from Shelter Now International, are: Australians Peter Bunch and Diana Thomas, Germans George Taubman, Margrit Stebnar, Kati Jelenik and Silke Duerrkopf and Americans Dayna Curry and Heather Mercer. A spokeswoman for the charity said they were extremely concerned for the safety of their staff and asked ICN readers to pray for their safe return.
