Christian Brothers elect new leader

The Christian Brothers have elected a brother from India as Congregational Leader. Br Joseph Philip Pinto, former Assistant to the Congregational leader at the Congregation's General Curia in Rome, was selected to succeed Irish Br Edmund Garvey at the Brothers' 29th General Chapter in Rome. The new leader studied at St. Columba's College in New Delhi and went on to become College Principal, a post he held from 1982 to 1987. In other moves at the General Chapter, Br Michael Godfrey, recent Congregational Leader of the St Patrick's Province (Victoria/Tasmania), was elected Deputy Congregational Leader. And Brothers Mark McDonnell, Jack Mostyn and Dominic Sassi were appointed Assistants.
